High Voltage Rubber Safety Glove Dielectric Testing Services

NAIL for PET accredited testing, visual inspection, and recertification for rubber insulating gloves (Class 00 – Class 4).

Electrical insulating gloves are a lineman’s primary line of defense against high-voltage shock. Over time, physical wear, ozone cutting, corona damage, or chemical exposure can compromise their dielectric integrity.

Burlington Safety Laboratory provides comprehensive, ASTM-compliant testing services for electrical safety gloves across our state-of-the-art testing facilities in New Jersey and California. With a standard 2-week turnaround time (and expedited options available), we ensure your team stays safe, compliant, and equipped.

Our 9-Step Dielectric Testing Process for Rubber Safety Gloves

Every pair of rubber insulating gloves submitted to Burlington Safety Laboratory passes through a rigorous 9-step quality assurance workflow:

Step 1: Preparatory Cleaning

Gloves are thoroughly washed using mild detergents in industrial washing equipment. This step removes dirt, grease, oils, and previous test stamps without degrading the natural rubber properties.

Step 2: Machine Drying

Following cleaning, gloves undergo controlled warm-air drying to prepare the material for accurate electrical evaluation.

Step 3: Dielectric High-Voltage Testing

Gloves are loaded into precision testing machines and submerged for dielectric breakdown and leakage current testing. In accordance with ASTM standards, proof voltage is applied based on the glove’s specific class rating (Class 00 to Class 4). Any glove exhibiting electrical breakdown or excess leakage current is automatically flagged.

Step 4: Re-Drying Process

After water bath dielectric testing, gloves pass through a second round of warm-air drying before moving to physical inspection.

Step 5: Air Testing & Visual Inspection

Considered the most critical stage of glove re-certification, gloves are inflated on pneumatic air testing stations. Our experienced technicians inspect every millimeter inside and out for hidden defects, including:

  • Ozone cracking, UV damage, and corona cutting
  • Cuts, nicks, snags, and scratches
  • Chemical exposure, soft spots, and embedded debris

Step 6: Serialized Stamping

Gloves that pass both dielectric and visual inspections are stamped in durable ink with the proof test voltage, test date, and a unique tracking serial number.

Step 7: Individual Bag Packaging

Each certified pair is heat-sealed in an individual protective plastic bag to prevent contamination and mechanical damage during transit.

Step 8: Boxing & Labeling

Gloves are boxed and sealed with Burlington Safety tape. Box labels display the serial number, class rating, and retest dates for clear inventory tracking.

Step 9: Delivery or Pickup

Finished orders are shipped via UPS or made available for customer pickup at one of our regional facilities (Burlington, NJ; Pleasanton, CA; Westminster, CA).

Electrical Safety Glove Field Care & Inspection (In the Field Guidelines)

Proper daily care extends the lifespan of your rubber insulating gloves and ensures maximum field safety between required 6-month laboratory testing intervals:

In the Field Rubber Glove Visual Inspection Tips

ALWAYS:

  • Inspect gloves daily for cuts, ozone cracks, and chemical degradation prior to use.
  • Wash gloves regularly with mild soap and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Allow gloves to air dry completely at room temperature away from heat sources.
  • Store gloves flat in dedicated protective storage bags or sleeve boards.

NEVER:

  • Never wear damaged gloves or omit required electrical safety gloves.
  • Never wear rings, watches, or sharp objects that could puncture the rubber.
  • Never store gloves inside out, folded, creased, or compressed.
  • Never expose gloves to oils, gas, solvents, or petroleum-based hand creams.

Immediate Replacement for Failed Gloves

If a glove fails either dielectric voltage testing or physical air inspection, safety regulations prohibit it from returning to service.

Burlington Safety Laboratory maintains a complete inventory of new, freshly tested Class 00 through Class 4 rubber gloves from industry-leading manufacturers. We can instantly replace rejected items from stock so your crew suffers zero operational downtime.
